The MATF works not only to bring adolescents outdoors and away from their screens, but also to connect with their community. We partner with call on schools and outside organizations for their support by ways of engagement and planning to make our events possible. Our goals align with these community-based organizations, as we work together to bring the youths, together, into the great outdoors
Step off the pavement and into the wild. Our hiking adventures take teens on guided treks through forests, mountains, and scenic trails where they’ll explore and appreciate nature, learn about local wildlife, and build resilience to challenge with every step. Whether it’s a peaceful walk or a challenging climb, hiking teaches mindfulness, teamwork, and the joy of unplugging in nature.
Pedal-powered freedom starts here. Our biking adventures take teens on scenic rides through winding trails, encouraging exploration at every turn. This activity builds endurance, confidence, and a strong sense of independence. Along the way, participants learn bike safety, trail etiquette, and the thrill of discovering new places—all while fostering friendships and a deeper connection to the outdoors.
Slow down, cast out, and enjoy the freedom of being out on the water. Fishing offers teens a chance to develop patience, focus, and an appreciation for aquatic life. Through the hands-on learning that fishing provides, they’ll gain skills in sustainability, responsible angling, and the importance of conserving our lakes, rivers, and oceans—all while enjoying peaceful moments and bonding with peers.
From kayaking and paddleboarding to river floats and swimming, our water activities are all about fun, freedom, and discovery. Teens connect with the natural, aquatic world through fun, active adventure, all while learning water safety, environmental care, and the unique ecosystems that thrive in and around water.
Rise to new challenges, literally. Our rock climbing program empowers teens to rise up to challenge in a safe, supportive environment. Whether scaling indoor walls or natural rock faces, participants learn critical thinking, trust, and confidence. Climbing builds strength, both mentally and physically, and encourages problem solving and persistence in the face of obstacles.
See the world differently. Our nature-based art program invites teens to capture the beauty of the outdoors through photography, painting, sketching, and other creative mediums. Guided by local artists and naturalists, participants explore how light, texture, and emotion come to life in natural settings, turning moments in the wild into meaningful expression and lasting memories.
